How to distinguish between reactive printing and coating dyeing?
Reactive printing, as the name suggests, refers to the product after the reactive dye has undergone reactive printing treatment. The design elements of reactive printing are diverse: plants, flowers, geometric shapes, English letters, and the organic combination of different color blocks, expressing different design styles through design techniques. Such fabrics have a wide range of adaptability and a relatively long application time. Reactive printed fabrics are bright in color, have good color fastness, and a soft hand feel. They do not fade after frequent washing and have a long usage time.
Reactive printing is a process where under certain conditions, the active genes of the dye combine with the fiber molecules, allowing the dye to penetrate into the fabric, resulting in a chemical reaction between the dye and the fabric, forming a whole; coating dyeing is the physical combination of dye and fabric through an adhesive.
The difference between reactive printing and coating printing is that reactive printing has a soft hand feel. Generally speaking, the fabric of reactive printing looks like mercerized cotton, with a good dyeing effect visible from both sides. This type of painted printed fabric feels very hard and looks somewhat like ink.
Characteristics of coating dyeing
The process is simple and cost-effective. The color fastness is poor, fading with each wash; environmental performance is poor, with formaldehyde content higher than that of reactive printing; the printed part has stickiness, and without adding a softener, it looks very hard. If a softener is added, the formaldehyde content is relatively high.
Characteristics of reactive printing
Good breathability, excellent fastness, and a soft hand feel, but there are also issues with complicated printing processes, long processes, and difficult processing. Generally, active dyeing can ensure that it is environmentally friendly and harmless to humans, with good color and fabric hand feel, without a hard or soft sensation.
Identification methods
Color identification: Painted printed colors are not bright, dull, giving a feeling of color floating on the fabric. It's like a layer of paint applied to a wall.
Look at the glossiness: Coating printed fabrics undergo a 'calendering' process before leaving the factory, so we see a kind of oily gloss on the fabric, which may indicate it is coating printed fabric. This gloss obtained through calendering is temporary and will disappear after washing.
Smell: Painted printing uses a large amount of adhesive, which directly shapes the fabric without water treatment, so the finished fabric will have a strong odor.
Hand feel: Coating printing has a hard hand feel. To cover this defect, fabric merchants add softeners, and after the finished product undergoes 'glossing', the hand feel will become softer, but most of it will fall off after washing.
