Advantages of reactive printing
2022-01-27
Nowadays, many consumers subconsciously choose reactive printed fabrics when selecting home textile bedding. But what exactly is reactive printing, what are its advantages, and are there other types of printing besides reactive printing?
Reactive dyeing, also known as reactive dyeing, contains reactive groups that can react with fiber molecules. During the dyeing and printing process, the reactive groups bond with the fiber molecules, forming a whole with the dye and fiber. As a mainstream printing technology, reactive printing has been widely disseminated and is extensively used on cotton and linen fabrics.
1. Advantages of reactive printing
Reactive printed fabrics are environmentally friendly, have low formaldehyde content, bright colors, good color intensity, and a soft hand feel after printing, with no stickiness. They do not contain harmful substances to the human body, and they do not fade or shrink during washing.
2. Are there other types of printing besides reactive printing?
There are mainly two methods of dyeing home textile fabrics: one is traditional reactive dyeing, and the other is coating dyeing.
Reactive printing: formed by the penetration of reactive dyes into the fabric.
Coating dyeing: made by covering the fabric with paint.
Reactive printing does not add azo and formaldehyde during the dyeing process, does not contain harmful substances to the human body, does not fade or reduce during washing. It has a smooth and soft hand feel, and the printing effect is good on both sides.
On the other hand, coating printing has a simple process and low cost, but its disadvantages include low color fastness and wash resistance. The hand feel is hard, and the texture against the skin is rough. Environmental performance decreases, and the formaldehyde content is higher than that of reactive printing. The printed areas can be sticky, especially in summer when they come into direct contact with the skin, which can be very uncomfortable.
Coating printing combines with the fabric through physical adhesion, and the friction fastness is relatively poor. Reactive printing directly adheres to the fabric. Generally speaking, reactive printing has a softer hand feel and is usually more expensive.
3. Four ways to distinguish between reactive printing and coating printing:
1. Look at the color: Coating printed colors are not bright, dark, and give a floating feeling on the fabric.
2. Look at the gloss: Generally, coating printed fabrics undergo a 'calendering' process before leaving the factory, which covers up the imperfections of the fabric surface. Therefore, if people see a glossy feeling on the fabric, it can be considered as paint printing. This gloss obtained through calendering is temporary and will disappear after washing.
3. Smell: Coating printing contains a lot of glue, and without washing treatment, it is directly set, so the finished fabric has a strong smell.
4. Touch: Coating printing feels hard, but this trick may not work. Because fabric merchants add a lot of softeners during setting to cover this defect, the finished product feels softer after 'calendering'. However, most of the softeners will fall off after washing, revealing the original texture.
