Why do most people choose reactive printing technology?
2021-12-13
There are three main methods for printing home textile fabrics: one is traditional pigment printing, another is reactive printing, which is the opposite of pigment dyeing, and the third is a fabric that mimics reactive printing, falling between reactive and pigment printing. The market has the most pigment printing, with low-end products almost all being pigment printed. Reactive printing is at least twice as expensive as pigment printing, while the price of reactive mimic fabrics falls between these two prices, neither high nor low, and not bad. In people's subjective perception, regardless of price or quality: reactive printing > reactive mimic printing > pigment printing.
Pigment printing process
Pigment printing is a method that physically bonds paint and fabric together, simply put, it involves applying paint to the surface of the fabric, so the paint cannot bond with the fabric fibers. Therefore, this printed fabric feels a bit stiff and adheres to the surface, leading to fading after multiple washes and friction, as the pigment particles will drop to varying degrees.
Advantages: Simple process, high productivity, low cost, minimal waste, clear printing, easy spelling, wide applicability, suitable for various fabrics.
Disadvantages: Stiff feel, poor dry and wet breathability, poor breathability for large area prints, and color vibrancy is not as good as reactive printing.
Reactive printing process
Reactive printing involves the penetration of reactive dyes into the fabric to form prints, allowing the dye to bond directly with the fabric. This dyeing method requires a lot of washing, resulting in a softer fabric feel. On the other hand, reactive dyes undergo a direct chemical reaction with the fabric fibers, so the dyeing process does not use adhesives, resulting in a much better feel and color fastness compared to pigment printing.
Advantages: Variety, bright colors, good color fastness, good feel, environmentally friendly with low formaldehyde content, and not easy to fade after washing.
Disadvantages: Poor dye utilization, generates a large amount of wastewater during production, prone to adhesion, high energy consumption, and high costs.
Reactive mimic printing
Reactive mimic printing essentially still belongs to pigment printing, as it still chooses pigments in terms of dye. However, to improve the various shortcomings of pigment printing, some manufacturers will adopt technical means to enhance the quality of pigment printing. Reactive mimic printing mainly improves the quality of pigment printing by enhancing the quality control in the production process and improving the feel and color fastness indicators, making it closer in quality to reactive printing.
Reactive printing has many benefits, but due to price reasons, the acceptance of reactive printed fabrics in the market is far less than that of pigment printed products. The belief is that consumers cannot intuitively distinguish between reactive, reactive mimic, and pigment printing based on visual perception. Moreover, the technology for pigment printing is becoming increasingly robust, with various indicators and color fastness improving significantly.
